Tomorrow sees the general availability of Microsoft’s flagship operating system Windows 7. The release will be accompanied by a series of launch events around the globe, as well as a wave of new PC models designed around the revamped operating system.

Microsoft says that its latest operating system is built around customer feedback and thus addresses the most popular areas for improvement. As such, Windows 7 is designed to be more responsive and simpler to use – it makes PCs start up, shut down, resume from standby, and respond faster. New functionalities supporting this ethos include Action Center, which replaces the myriad of interuptions and icon pop-ups that an operating system can sometimes throw in the user’s way.

Windows 7 Review by NathCorp

Microsoft on Thursday had released  the long awaited operating system  - Windows 7, which promisses better user experience and speed.

The reviews are pouring in and its positive. NathCorp group of experts decided to put it to the test. Our software evaluation team tested Windows 7 Enterprise and based on '5 factor test' concluded with the following result.

Speed and Performance : Windows 7 has tremendous speed improvements over Windows Vista . The graphics and crisp , the boot up time is 30% faster and maybe the fastest of any Operating System. A lot of work has been put in Hibernate and it shows. File Transfers is one area a dramatic improvement can be seen compared to Windows Vista SP1. Overall we rate it a 8 out of 10 for performance.

Security: Microsoft has introduced a change on the UAC prompt . The users will have the ability to change how ofen then need to be notified. While this would dramatically improve user experience and put an end to the so called 'annoying prompt's , security experts have raised concern's over the new mechanism. Microsoft has began issuing patches. Overall we rate it based on our testing and feedback 6 out of 10 for security.

User friendliness : Windows 7 has revamped the way it presents itself to the user when compared to previous editons of Windows Operating System. A whole bunch of goodies and new technologies have been introduced to make the experience smooth and efficient . Eye to details have been kept and Microsoft looks keen to improve user productivity as well. New features such as Windows VPN , Jump Lists, Faster searches , New Taskbar and Branch Cache adds more value to this operating system . Overall we rate Windows 7 ,  9 out of 10 for User friendliness.

Price :

While the price ranges are not that significantly high for starter group , it goes high for higher ends such as Professional and Ultimate which one would like to have. However compared to the features and support provided it worth the investment. Overall we rate 7 out of 10 for price.

  • Windows 7 Home Basic: For Rs 5,899
  • Windows 7 Home Premium: For Rs 6,799
  • Windows 7 Professional: For Rs 11,199
  • Windows 7 Ultimate (worldwide): For Rs 11,799

Compatiblity :

Concern was there in the industry over the compatiblity and performance of applications on Windows 7. Based on the reviews and feedback's - Windows 7 seems to be be doing better than Windows Vista , with XP mode for Windows 7 introduced - almost all the applications work as expected. The good news is that the performance also shows to improve on certain areas. Microsoft is doing what it can and is providing updates for the Compatiblity database on a regular basis.  We found the transistion from Windows XP to Windows 7 simple and easy . Though there were some technical issues with certain in house application's - they were addressed easily. Drivers for Windows 7 are also coming out nicely from various Vendors. Overall on compatiiblity we rate Windows 7 a 8 out of 10.

Our Overall Score for Windows 7  : 8.5 / 10
